How To Stay Hydrated Before & During A Flight

Stay Hydrated Before & During A Flight

Hydration is a key component of glowing skin. When our skin is dehydrated it can look dull. Fine lines and wrinkles become more prominent. Dehydration causes us to look tired, stressed and older than our true age.

When we travel we want to look and feel great. However, travel is very hard on the body. Most people try to make sure they get enough rest before, during and after flying. Unfortunately, many people don’t pay enough attention to hydration while traveling.

Most of us walk around a little bit dehydrated at all times. The stress of travel can increase dehydration. It's easy to wind up feeling and looking tired, just because we didn’t have enough to drink. A hydration plan can help you overcome these obstacles and show up to your destination looking fresh.

You should start thinking about hydration a few days before the trip. It is easy to get so busy packing and preparing that we forget to take care of ourselves. Start paying attention to your hydration at least 24 hours before your flight.  If you begin to consciously hydrate two or three days before your departure, that is even better.

Part of your strategy should include packing hydrating personal products in your carry-on bag. Be sure to apply body lotion, chapstick, and facial moisturizer frequently. Using moisturizing products on your skin helps to keep you looking your best.

It is important to pack a water bottle to carry with you on your trip. You will have to pour out the water before you pass through security. You can refill once you are on the other side. Most modern airports offer purified water bottle filling stations near their bathrooms.

Some people like to add things like mint and lemon to their water. An airport bar can help you turn your water bottle into a fancy virgin mojito. Adding fruit to your water is also very healthy. You may be able to find fresh fruit with a vendor inside the airport.

You should be aware that many popular beverages are very dehydrating. Coffee, tea, and sodas all drain your body’s reserves. You don’t have to give up your morning brew, but limit your energy fixes to once or twice a day. You should aim for about six glasses of water per day, in addition to your energy beverages.

Eating fruits and vegetables helps you stay hydrated. Juicy oranges, apples, grapes, melons, and berries are all particularly hydrating. When you need a snack, consider these fruits instead of things like salty chips.

It’s important to make sure that you are getting enough electrolytes. You can buy electrolyte tablets to add to your drinking water. Himalayan sea salt is another great additive that contains electrolytes and trace minerals.

Remember that alcoholic beverages are dehydrating. Limit your onboard consumption, and make sure that you are drinking water in between sipping your cocktails. Getting lit on the plane is a sure-fire way to ensure maximum jetlag. Save the party for your destination.

If you follow this plan you will show up looking and feeling great. Take the time to prepare for your trip and take care of yourself while you are traveling.  These tips will help you be ready for whatever you have planned.
